Butterfly Family List

A Message from the IBBA Board of Directors

We are very pleased to announce the continuation of the IBBA's Farmers' List. It has been renamed "The Butterfly Family List." The rules for the list will appear on every email as a reminder of what the list is for: discussion and learning about butterflies and moths. We reserve the right to block access to the list for anyone who disregards the rules.  The list may be moderated and questionable posts will be removed at the discretion of the IBBA Board of Directors.  Participants/users may be suspended from list usage.  The Butterfly Family List is an owned asset of IBBA and as such, may not be used to promote or mention associations competing with IBBA.

Participants/users will address complaints or issues regarding the Butterfly Family List or IBBA Mailing List Policies privately to the IBBA Board of Directors and not on the mailing lists.

May I also suggest that if your debate gets to a "heated" level, you simply announce that you are taking if off list and anyone interested in "listening" should send you a private email to be included. That way it becomes a personal choice to listen in. I know that some very interesting facts come out of these debates and there may be many who would like to participate.

There will be no formal advertising on the list. Posts regarding stock may still be put to the list by any individual. For the sake of space on this list, we ask that you reply privately. That will save multiple emails coming to the list asking the same thing.

From time-to-time, we will keep you updated as to any regulations affecting the ability to ship and/or release butterflies. If you want more in-depth information than was posted, a private email to any one of the board members will get the information to you.

What is The Butterfly Family List?

The Butterfly Family List is an open mailing list for butterfly enthusiasts of all ages and abilities. Its purpose is to enable the sharing of information about butterflies and their environment. On the Butterfly Family List you can ask or answer questions, pass on any items of interest, or just 'lurk' in the background and read what others are saying.

The Butterfly Family List is sponsored by the IBBA, but you do not have to be a member of the IBBA to join.

How does it work?

You must be a subscriber to send or receive List messages. Click HERE to find out how to subscribe. The list is fully automated; once you have subscribed you will start to receive list messages in your e-mail Inbox.

Tip: to keep your Inbox clear, create a new mail folder for list messages and set up a Mail Rule to automatically move any list messages to that folder.

  • If you wish to reply to a message, use your browser's Reply button to create a reply message and add your comments. Please remember to remove any old headers and footers (the Rules, other list information and list commands) as these will be automatically added anew when you send your message.

  • To send a new message, create a new e-mail and address it to
farming@butterflywebsite.com. You must be subscribed to the List to do this.

  • The Butterfly Family List is a plain-text list. HTML (Rich Text) messages are converted to plain text and attachments are removed. If you wish to make a picture or document available to other list members, you must upload it to a website or FTP web server and provide the URL (web address) so that people can view or download it from there. Alternatively for general interest items you can send them to the IBBA webmaster requesting inclusion on the IBBA website. (But please note that inclusion is not guaranteed!)

  • To change your list e-mail address, unsubscribe from the old address and subscribe again using the new one.

Daily Digest

A Daily Digest option is also available. Instead of receiving individual messages, you will receive a single daily e-mail containing all messages posted in the previous 24 hours.

If replying to a post contained within the Daily Digert, please DO NOT leave all of the digest text in your message - other subscribers do not want to receive the full text of all of the previous day's messages in every reply, and the included text will be included yet again in the following digest. To reply to a particular post contained within the digest, either delete all of the original text except for the part to which you wish to refer, or copy the relevant digest text into a new e-mail.

Click HERE to find out how to subscribe to the digest.

Note: to change from the standard list subscription to the digest, you will need to unsubscribe from the standard list and subscribe anew to the digest.
