The Basics of Butterfly Farming

The Board of Directors is happy to announce plans for a spring on-line course.

This course will be held from March 1 - March 14, 2006. The IBBA reserves the right to change the timeframe if necessary.

The focus of this course will be on the Basics of Butterfly Farming for the new farmer! It will be taught by three well-qualified instructors:

  • Zane Greathouse of Greathouse Butterfly Farm, Inc., Florida;
  • Dave Clermont of Gaia Nature, Quebec, Canada; and
  • Fran LeMasters of All-A-Flutter, Ohio.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Marketing Your Products (Internet Retail Sales, Wholesaling Livestock, Local Advertising);
  • The Butterfly Sales Call;
  • Butterfly Mating/Pairing;
  • Egg Laying;
  • Egg Collection;
  • Egg Sterilization;
  • Larvae Raising, Various Systems employed will be explained;
  • Pupae (Handling, Hanging, Emerging);
  • Basic Disease Control;
  • Host and Nectar Plants;
  • Artificial Diets for Painted Ladies;
  • Getting Orders Ready for Shipping;
  • Wedding Release Accessories and Butterfly Merchandise;
  • Educational Presentations.

There is no cost to IBBA members; Non-IBBA Member's cost is $50.00.
