Welcome to the IBBA!!

The IBBA is a not-for-profit Trade Organization concerned specifically with the issues of butterfly breeding, releases, education, exhibition, scientific study of the butterfly world, and many other aspects of lepidoptera.

Butterfly people are a different type of person in the respect that they pay attention to detail, willingly adhere to strict guidelines of ethical breeding and handling of butterflies, have a thirst for more knowledge in the field, and are always looking for new and better ways to enhance their expertise.

Not all of us are breeders, or farmers, or scientists, or wedding professionals, or entomologists . . . . But, most of us seem to have a common goal. Learn all you can, experiment and find new techniques, ask questions and learn from others, pass on your ideas and knowledge to others. That is what makes the IBBA unique among organizations. Each and every personality that passes our way enhances our lives, and butterfly people are among the best.

As you become more familiar with the industry as a whole and learn all the many facets of it that you never knew existed, you will begin to understand the network of butterfly professionals (and you are one of them), and how they all come together for a common interest.

Always follow the guidelines set forth by any authorizing body in your country - in the USA this is the USDA. Obtain all the proper permits, familiarize yourself with ethical procedures for the handling and shipping of Lepidoptera, and by all means, never be afraid to ask if you don’t understand any part of the regulations. That is part of the network of IBBA members’ expertise and experience.
