As Co-Coordinators of the Wings of Hope Program, Alicia Baylor and Kathy Marshburn became IBBA's ambassadors for this special program, lovingly caring for and managing all details of this program. They were instrumental in securing two important sponsors for Wings of Hope: The Molly Bish Foundation and the Granby Public Library in Granby, Massachusetts. They carefully took care of all details for 7 Wings of Hope Butterfly Releases during 2006. This involved reviewing applications, ongoing communication with prospective recipients, promoting the events, recruiting donors and facilitating the shipments. Their work did not stop there. There was follow-up and closure with all individuals and organizations involved, both donors and recipients and final reports for each event placed on the Wings of Hope Web page. We are truly appreciative of the care and attention they have given to this program. Their work has been outstanding.
For 1½ years faithful service and dedication as president of the IBBA.
The IBBA Board of Directors has selected Paul Chesterfield of Butterfly Boutique for special recognition and appreciation. Paul has given many thousands of hours personal time, to create and maintain the IBBA website.
An IBBA Certificate of Appreciation and Paperweight was awarded to Paul Chesterfield by the 2003 Board of Directors.
For her continuing work as IBBA Treasurer and for her faithful work as Convention Treasurer.
Zane and Maggie Greathouse were sponsors for the California convention in February, then managed the Florida convention in November 2007. They represented the IBBA at the SASI invertibrates in captivity meeting in Arizona, introducing the commercial butterfly farmers to groups there. Zane has served as a board member in 2007 and has been an extremely positive force on the Board of Directors - a steady, calm presence that has given warmth, wisdom and kindness always.
The Publications Committee are pleased to recognise Cindy Hepp of the Milkweed Cafe for their first Committee Award. Cindy has contributed to the butterfly breeding industry in many ways, but the committee wish in particular to recognise her for her
Cheryl Lake was presented with IBBA Special Angel Awards at the 2003 IBBA Annual Convention.
Melanie McCarthy was honored at the 2002 IBBA convention with "Angel Awards" for their contributions to the IBBA above and beyond the call of duty. Melanie's contributions to the IBBA have included:
Melanie has been president, board member, committee chairperson and more. She has guided us through legal and procedural minefields numerous times. Her bookkeeping, accounting, business, and organizational skills have kept the IBBA on track. Ms. McCarthy single handedly took care of the incorporation of Wings of Hope so it is now a 501c Corporation that can take tax deductible donations. Melanie has been a part of the IBBA since its beginning, but it is what she has done in the interim that matters. Zane B. Greathouse
The Gardening Committee recognizes Jay McRoberts outstanding contributions to the IBBA, its members and the world of butterflies. Jay unselfishly gives of his time by sharing advice, plant cuttings and friendship with many people. Jay's work with Converting Power Easements to Butterfly Habitats projects and the IBBA's Tagging Program has done much to raise the image of the IBBA in the public eye. He is a cherished member of the IBBA and the Gardening Committee thanks Jay for his caring and his work.

An IBBA Certificate of Appreciation and Paperweight was awarded to Rick Mikula by the 2003 Board of Directors.
Rick has done more to make the butterfly release business an industry than anyone I know. He has lead us with his seminars, at workshops, and many presentations. Mr. Mikula is the face of our industry (be it cross-eyed with a butterfly on his nose) as he crosses the country doing programs and sharing his love for butterflies and butterfly releases. Rick has taught us that this doesn’t have to be a hobby. We learned that we can make a living doing something we love.
Linda Rogers was honored at the 2002 IBBA convention with "Angel Awards" for their contributions to the IBBA above and beyond the call of duty. Linda's contributions to the IBBA have included:
Linda is what the IBBA is all about. She is full of energy, ideas, and passion. She has spent untold hours doing behind the scenes work for the IBBA. Her spirit of volunteerism is what our organization relies on. Ms. Rogers is a dynamo and she has made a difference many times. Her political energy helped to get the IBBA through some tough times with the USDA. Linda is another “been there from the start” member who continues to generate ideas, share her passion, and make a difference. Zane B. Greathouse
For outstanding achievement based on her hard work and dedicated service in creating, coordinating and directing the 2004 IBBA Convention. With minimal help, Edith almost single-handedly organized the entire affair, including location, speakers, entertainment, and meals. Additionally, Edith seriously listened to various members of the IBBA and the Board of Directors, and did everything humanly possible to accommodate their requests, suggestions, and concerns.
Liz Swanson In July 2004 The IBBA Board of Directors honored Liz Swanson with a Special Award in grateful appreciation for all of her hard work with the IBBA store.
Felicia Tappan has been a can-do board member in 2006, extending herself into special projects that are very meaningful to the association - attending two wedding professionals trade meetings, giving instructional workshops for wedding planners, and is assembling and managing the upcoming online workshop for Wedding Professionals in 2007. Felicia is always willing to pitch in and make the difference.
An IBBA Certificate of Appreciation and Paperweight was awarded to Jon Timko by the 2003 Board of Directors.
Nigel Venters
Nigel is the unofficial mentor of the IBBA. He has donated many hours sharing husbandry and culture ideas. His musings on the list are always well read and generate much positive interest. I know of no one who knows more about the breeding of butterflies and certainly no one who has been more willing to share their knowledge with beginners. Nigel has patiently answered the same questions time and time again as new IBBA members learn the intricacies of butterfly rearing. Zane B. Greathouse
Kathleen Ziemer was presented with IBBA Special Angel Awards at the 2003 IBBA Annual Convention. Kathleen received her Special Angel Award for her efforts on the convention planning. |
