"Good morning,

I read your website and do hope you can help. I come to you as the Louisiana Garden Club, Fed. Butterfly chairman and also the National Garden Club butterfly chairman....but today I come to you as a Louisianian who has endured the wrath of Hurricane Katrina & Rita.

I am living in a trailer which is comfortable & we are very grateful for this. Our home is studs, mold & a roof. But this will look up.I know it will.

I would like to ask your Wings of Hope to consider helping me with donations of butterflies for a release I will be doing in Chalmette La. This town is only 8 miles from me & of course the devasation is unbelievable. (this is the location where the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet flooded over into the town.

For the past 4 years I presented my butterfly program, info. At an Art is April in Chalmette. This year someone called & said they had found my # in the debris & muck & the art committee was planning their celebration for the people who are trying to come back & put their lives together.

I am working with their school to adopt & plant a butterfly garden (the celebration is being held at the school--as the park where the festival usually was held is now filled with fema trailers) The class who adopts the spot will plant the garden during the festival and with God's blessing I would like to have a beautiful healing & hopeful butterfly release.

If this is something your group would help with please let me know.

EVENT--ART IN APRIL Sponsored by the art association for the people of this now devasted parish.

*My goal-- plant a butterfly garden during the festival which will create a permanate healing place and a place of hope.

Butterfly release...........with hope that this symbolic gesture brings some peace to these fragile souls who have been through the most catastrophic disaster in history.

Wings of Hope events are not normally accepted as early as April, because butterflies are not generally emerging this early in the season. However, in this instance the request was accepted.

Since no butterflies were available, IBBA Breeder Melanie McCarthy sent 24 P.L. pupae and a display cage. The children plan to watch the metamorphosis and after the butterflies emerge, they will release them into the garden.

Wings of Hope Request:

Hi, I am a teacher in Essington, PA. I had a 4th grader named Harley who recently died at the age of 10 from Brain Cancer. I was his teacher and homebound teacher for the 18 months he battled this horrid disease. He had a love of nature and butterflies were his favorite. The family is financially burden and as a school we have fundraised money to cover the numerous hospital and medication and now funeral bills. We are planting a butterfly bush and trying to have a butterfly release in honor of him. I was wondering if your company is willing to donate any butterflies for this special occasion. I apprecieate your time and consideration.

American Cancer Society Relay for Life, an annual event held at Springfield College in Springfield, MA.

Relay For Life® of Greater Springfield is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money to help the American Cancer Society save lives, help those who have been touched by cancer, and empower individuals to fight back against this disease.

OUR 14thYEAR!

During the event, teams of people gather at Springfield College and take turns walking or running laps. Each team keeps at least one team member on the track at all times.

Relay is much more than a walk around a track. It is a time to remember those lost to cancer and celebrate those who have survived. It is a night for people who have shared the same experience to comfort and console one another.

Relay gives you the power to help accelerate the Society’s advancement toward a future where cancer doesn’t take the lives of our friends and family.

On June 2, 2006 The American Cancer Society held it's 14th Annual (2006) Relay for Life of Greater Springfield. The event was held at Springfield College, Alden Street, Springfield, Massachusetts. The coordinator for the buterfly release from the American Cancer Society was Donna Roberts of Wilbraham, Massachusetts.

"I am a first grade teacher in Massachusetts. Connor, one of my first grade students was recently killed by a dog. I want to have something special, symbolic and meaningful for my students to remember at his commerative Memorial ceremony. The kids are all so little and innocent and I thought of having a butterfly release and how fitting and hopeful it would be to remember their friend. The Memorial will be held June 15, 2006 at 9:30 A.M. in Lunenburg MA.

July 22

We have an event on July 22, for Camp Courage a camp for children ages 6-13 who have experienced the loss of a loved one to Cancer. So please consider raising a few extra butterflies to help bring the Wings of Hope to those who need a little healing.

Mental illness affects people from every cultural, racial, and ethnic background, and can occur at any stage in life, from childhood to old age. The National Alliance on Mental Illness of McHenry County (NAMI-MC) is a non-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to improving the lives of people with mental illness. NAMI-MC will be holding their annual "Changing Minds. One Step at a Time" walk/run on Sept. 30. This is the only fundraiser for the organization. Funds raised through the walk/run event will support education for families affected by mental illness, a scholarship at McHenry County College for someone diagnosed with mental illness, an emergency medication fund in collaboration with the McHenry County Mental Health Board, as well as support for our group homes and the McHenry County Clubhouse social center.

It is our hope to begin the walk/run with the release of butterflies to symbolize uplifting hope and transformation in the lives of those who have been touched by mental illness.
